How to choose the best CMS for a Healthcare Organization

High Score Labs News   •   Oct 21, 2019

It is a common situation when everyone has got an issue about his/her health he or she starts Internet searching. How can we better engage our target audience with engaging online content and experiences? The answer is the right CMS system.
How would one go about selecting the right one? Based on our years of industry experience working with healthcare providers, we have some ideas to help you to make that choice.

Budget
this is probably the first and most important thing that is considered when it comes to selecting a system.
Episerver and Sitecore are often the best choice for partners that have good budgets. Both tools have their advantages in experience management. For starting quickly with a system that can scale out, we find that Episerver is the best choice. When one is interested in more advanced experience management tools, Sitecore is often the best choice.
For partners that are looking for something simpler and less budgetary requirements, Magento or Umbraco are often a good solution. Simple but effective systems for both small and large customers with lower costs — what can be better?

Industry position
Two independent market research firms, Gartner and Forrester, issue research reports and rank leaders’ names by different requirements. Sitecore and Episerver take a leadership position in the Gartner Magic Quadrant. We can add that Episerver has continuously grown year over year in this key metric.

As you see Magento and Umbraco are absent in these reports. Magento was acquired by Adobe in 2018 to strength Adobe’s ecommerce portfolio with small and medium clients. But Magento on its own lacks many of the out of the box tools to accelerate development, unlike Episerver and Sitecore.

Meeting Requirements
Healthcare organizations often have specific requirements, so they need to take this into account when selecting a CMS system have to meet their needs. Due to this fact, there is often a long list of requirements, especially around protecting PII and PMI. Episerver and Sitecore both have a large portfolio of healthcare customers, i.e. University of Maryland Medical System and Rasay Healthcare use Sitecore, American Hospital Association and Seattle Children’s Hospital are built on Episerver. Magento also has successful cases with famous clients, i.e. Nestle Health Science. Umbraco is used for some customers like Scholl to develop consumer-facing engagment.

Personalization
At the annuall digital marketing conference DMEXCO in Cologne (40 K visitors, 977 exhibitors, more than 700 international speakers) the main topic was lost of trust. It means now customers interest in ads and brands is on the down trend. Often an effective solution is personalization. Episerver and Sitecore both have strong personalization and AI driven engagement features. Magento also has personalization tools that are optional and available for and additional license. Umbraco however, has fewer abilities for personalization when compared to others.

Conclusion
If you are interested in an engagement platform with years of successful case studies behind it, we like to recommend Episerver and Sitecore. Magento or Umbraco can be a good solution if budget is a concern.
